Access to Daily DCS Alarm Reports in Oil and Gas Facilities

Hello !  I am new to this community but would like to ask the following:   Has anybody any experience extracting a list of DCS Process Alerts to Operators or Operator Overrides on an Hourly or Daily basis into CDF ?   This data resides in the OT and is sometimes extracted and made available in reports in the IT domain, e.g., by Yokogawa.   As I see it, this is an important indicator for stable and well managed production operations, and also a good predictor of upcoming threats to production.

The economic and environmental cost of corrosion

I am the Head of the Services delivery team in Cognite. The team I lead develops and delivers domain use cases based in CDF to our customers in O&G, manufacturing and renewables. I am going to focus here on what are the consequences of corrosion of industrial assets on the economy and the environment, as recently covered in a series of publications (see references section). The economic and environmental cost of corrosion is a significant issue and is much more severe than one could think. While several calculations methods have been used in various studies it is generally accepted that the direct costs of corrosion to the economy are equivalent to roughly 3–4% of a country’s gross domestic product (GDP) [1,2]. The main cost impact is due to the replacement of corroded steel in failing infrastructures (roads, railways, etc.) industrial equipment and buildings. As well, it has been qualitatively estimated that between 25 and 33% of the annual steel production is destroyed once in se

Digital conversation maturing - analysis of two CEOs' discussions

Hello, I found very interesting that a lot of the conversation around digital has moved away from “AI will change the industry” to much more elaborate analysis on the importance of data in context and data orchestration/DataOps. This realization is making its way all the way to the board room.A good example comes from the recent conversation between Blake Moret (CEO of Rockwell Automation) and Olivier Le Peuch (CEO of SLB). Both companies have independently decided to partner with Cognite and you can find some of the rationale in their exchange below.Two additional notes from the discussion:There is a vision to move from an equipment centric digitalization to a full asset/system view of what digital should encompass - with automation/closing the loop as a key actuator (see Sensia’s control systems’ role),  The discussion around optimization has stopped being solely about production volumes but now also systematically includes carbon. Source: Partial transcript from Rockwell Automation'

SAP write-backs from Cognite Data Fusion

A use case we encounter at Cognite is writing data back to SAP. This can happen in several contexts where the main goal is to create or update data in SAP (ex: work orders, notifications etc.) based on the analysis of data stored in Cognite Data Fusion. The ability to write back to SAP allows to take decisions without going back and forth between applications, which can save a lot of time. It is also less error prone than manually filling fields in SAP based on what you read in Cognite Data Fusion.  This use case, which is all about automating processes, definitely fits Industry 4.0. In addition to that, SAP is one of the most used ERP systems in the industry. As a side note: we are talking today about SAP, but the same would be possible with other ERPs (as long as they have an API we can send requests to). For example, in a maintenance context: when analyzing data of your industrial machinery, you might notice that one of your machines needs maintenance. Roles, tasks and skill sets for development and operations

Looking at material on DataOps on the web quickly gives you some high-level overviews of teams and roles that make sense in an Industrial DataOps team. They are similar but may differ in details or perspectives. Does Cognite have an opinion to add? Of course we do! Before we start it is important to understand that the roles we mention don't have to be different people. If you are developing something very big and complex, sure, but if you are creating a single dashboard, extracting and ingesting the data for that, contextualizing it and visualizing it, two persons are likely enough. And not for very long either. If on the other hand you are developing a complex react application you may have multiple developers. Automatic labeling of CDF resources

One thing that would make the finding of the correct data is to label the CDF resources better with labels. https://docs.cognite.com/dev/concepts/resource_types/labels In the contextualization pipeline could things be automatically labeled such as:Document type: P&ID, PDF(Process Flow Diagram), loop diagrams, datasheets, single line. that theses documents are either labeled from the metadata. document ID schema (regex will do it) or from classification algorithm the file, and then gives it a label to the file. that we can see from the label on the resource what it is.The same is for Asset: Is it a Junction box, Transmitter, Skid, Pump, Motor, valve etc etc. Time series: is it a physical measurement, is an inference / calculation / “soft-tag”, is a parameter (like the gain or integration time on PID controller) this could be determent by simple analyzing of the data-point behavior of the time series. cause now when we search for a time series often a time series of a parameter that

INTRODUCTION A digital twin can be one of the most useful, insightful tools to drive industrial innovation.
