Hello,

We are currently facing issues when trying to connect CDF to Power BI. We have already granted all the necessary permissions according to the official documentation, but we are encountering the following problems:

  1. Connection via Username and Password:

    • Although Power BI lists the objects successfully, we are unable to visualize their content.
    • It results in the following error:

  2. Connection via API Key:

    • The authentication screen in Power BI prompts us to enter the API key. However, when we provide the key, it is marked as invalid.
    • Here we can see the CDF objects but not the data itself.
    •

  • Is there a step-by-step guide to correctly configure and use the API key for authenticating in Power BI?
  • Could you provide some clarification on whether there are any additional organizational settings that could be causing these errors during authentication?

Any insights or guidance on resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

It appears that the Cognitedata API application has not been added to your Entra.

You need to go through the guide: https://docs.cognite.com/cdf/access/guides/configure_cdf_azure_oidc/  (Step 1.1, Step 1.2 is not needed for PowerBI).

You cluster URL is https://az-gru-001.cognitedata.com (you’ll need it when following the guide)

Alternatively, if you are using a guest account in the Entra, you need to add the parameter ?tenantId=<entra-tenant-id> to the project name when configuring the CDF data source.

Additionally, you may want to ensure that Microsoft PowerQuery for Excel is register.  Please see:  https://docs.cognite.com/cdf/dashboards/guides/powerbi/admin/#register-the-microsoft-power-query-for-excel-application
