Remove "Show More" button in search and expose all Categories by defualt

Search Experience Improvements

We would like to see the "Show More" expansion button removed from the Search experience.

Today, as additional datasets are added, the interface progressively hides content behind the "Show More" control. This creates friction for users who must repeatedly click to access information that is already available. More importantly, users who are unaware that new datasets have been added may never discover them because they remain hidden by default.

Instead, we recommend allowing the full list of datasets to be displayed in a scrollable view. If the number of datasets exceeds the available page space, users can simply scroll through the list rather than repeatedly expanding sections. This would improve discoverability, reduce clicks, and create a more intuitive search experience.

      When showing all the views it would be nice to have an easier way to configure the ordering and grouping of the views. We are beginning to have quite big models and grouping things is quite hard when it’s based on deployment ordering.

      Also grouping by Cognite extensions isn’t really working as we need to group them semantically by business value.

       

      We also need a way to search among the views as we are beginning to have a lot of them (hundreds) and navigation becomes harder and harder as the model grows.

      I understand the need ​@Markus Pettersen.

      Custom grouping will have to be split out, and not tackled together with the original suggestion here, as it will require a quite substantial re-architecture. Custom grouping and category order configuration impacts, among other things, counts. My estimate is that this is something that we can explore towards the end of H1 next year, when we have an updated Search API supporting multi-source searches (e.g searches and aggregates across categories/views) - but still a lot of uncertainty with how to solve for this. 

      Curious about your statement; Does your data model for end user consumption have hundreds of views? Is that needed in the business end user facing Search UI? That sounds challenging to navigate, even if one has a search functionality on categories in the UI.
