Cognite Charts : Improvement request for Charts

Hi @Irie and thank you for taking the time to make this request. This is absolutely a feature we agree needs to be available, and is a request we’ve heard from other people too.

@Anita Hæhre could you set this product idea’s status as Planned for development?

Currently, the team is working hard to implement the new features that will be included in our upcoming December 6th release (see more here). While the ability to specify the number of significant digits is not something we’re working on right now, it is on the short list of features to be worked on after our December release.

As soon as we know more about exactly when this functionality will be worked on and be made available, we’ll be sure to post an update here and let you know. In the meantime, if you come across any additional feature requests or questions, please don’t hesitate to let us know!

Thank you for following up this item. We have done more research across our users, and see that there are variations in how many significant digits that a user needs depending on the problem they are working with in Charts.  

We would like to make this a user preference. Since Cognite is working on implementing a user setting across Cognite Data Fusion, we have postponed this feature to make sure we are implementing a good solution for this. We apologize for this delay, and will get back to you when the timeline is clearer.

Thanks again for getting in touch with us and apologies for the delayed response on our end vacation times in june / july can be quite hectic 😅. As mentioned by @Knut Vidvei  earlier we have recognized the need for the feature by our users but we are still working on implementing user settings and profiles within CDF as a whole. We have started to make progress on that end but not at a stage where this feature can be enabled at the moment. We understand the importance and real need for this feature but we believe that this has to be a user setting and something that is quite flexible instead of a local solution in charts. As a result unfortunately the feature is still postponed until user profiles are in place and we really hope to solve this issue for you in the very near future.

@Arun Arunachalam - is there a general timeline that you can give us on when ability to adjust sig figs will be available? This is important for Celanese as well.

Sorry for the late reply on my end release schedule has been hectic. So we have lowered the significant digits from the previous number to a much lower number of 6 this should be much easier to view and use. Please try this and let us know if this works for your use cases? We wanted to start with a lower hardcoded value before we build out a user setting for this if that makes sense.
