From what I can tell from the documentation and what I can see from the datapoints we have in CDF the datapoints seem to be using milliseconds. My question is if CDF is currently able to handle microsecond timestamps or if this is functionality that would require additional development and whether or not this is on the current roadmap.

I’m the product manager for Time Series, thanks for the question!
The backend architecture of our Time Series service is capable of handling microsecond and even nanosecond resolution time series, however we have not yet implemented support for anything sub-millisecond in the API as yet, and it is not currently on the roadmap.
It is something we have considered in the past, however there has been insufficient market validation for us to invest the time in building this vs. other priorities. That said, we always have a very open mind on this topic and any further information you can provide on this requirement will help us refine our understanding of the needs of the market and help us prioritise this differently.
What are the use cases that drive this requirement? From which types of source would data points of this resolution come from, and how would the data points be used / consumed?

Thanks for the information. Good to know that the capability exists, even if it is not made available through the API at the moment.
Our team, CDF Data Delivery at Aker BP, received some requirements for an initiative and the time series resolution was on of them. This was primarily regarding special cases where there would be a more or less “manual” upload of datapoints after certain events. For now I just needed to clarify what the current capabilities of CDF was before proceeding.
We will be in touch with more details as we proceed.

Are these datapoints from expert systems such as vibration and ultrasound monitors, or is it more ‘traditional’ measurements but just at a much higher frequency?
At the moment I do not know. I have only received the requirements, they were somewhat vague and on our end we would need more information to assess whether or not to even go forth with this. But it was good to know where CDF was in regards to this, there were some uncertainties that have now been cleared up.
The next steps will be that I get more information from the people who made this requirement so that we know the specific use case (rather than a vague summary) and can figure out if microsecond granularity is actually needed.
