Using transformations to create/update data can be cumbersome especially for complex FDM models. I understand there are plans to generate APIs from models, but are there any alternatives in the short term, such as implementing GraphQL mutations? Are the APIs used by transformations internal to CDF?

Whilst FDM is in pre-production, Transformations remains the way for data model creation / updates whilst changes to the underlying APIs are in flight. We need to have the ability to make breaking changes to these APIs as we develop and Transformations protects our consumers from those.
At General Availability (Feb 2023), we plan to make the API available, and the documentation may be made available in advance of that.
Graph QL mutations are in the roadmap, and a stretch goal for our GA release.
Python SDK update is not in the scope for GA, but it will be updated to support FDM soon after release.
