Hi everyone,

I'm currently taking the "Introduction to CDF & Grafana" course on the Academy, but I've hit a roadblock due to a mismatch between the tutorial videos and the current UI. It looks like the Grafana UI and the underlying Cognite plugin have changed significantly since the course videos were recorded, and I'm stuck trying to plot my data.

Here is a breakdown of my current setup and where I am getting blocked:

Current Setup & Connection

  • Course Reference: Introduction to CDF & Grafana (specifically the hands-on video tutorials for dashboard creation).

  • Connection Status: The connection to the CDF database (cognitedata-datasource) is active and successfully authenticated.

The Issue

The updated UI dropdowns now primarily expose modern Data Modeling spaces (such as CogniteTimeSeries (cdf_cdm) v1, CogniteExtractorTimeSeries, etc.).

Because the UI seems locked into searching within these specific, unmapped modeling spaces, I cannot retrieve my classic data:

  • I've tried searching for my PI tag using its internal ID: pi:160885

  • I've also tried the tag name: VAL_23-TT-92537:X.Value

  • Result: The system returns 'No timeseries found'.

My Question

Has anyone else encountered this issue with the updated interface? What is the current workflow for connecting standard/classic timeseries tags that aren't mapped to these newer Data Modeling spaces in this version of the plugin?

I’ve searched the community hub topics for this specific interface version but haven't found a solution yet, so any guidance, documentation links, or workarounds would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much for your time and help!

Best regards,

Savio

Hi @Savio Aguiar,

Try the following steps and let me know whether it resolves your issue.

  1. Go to your Grafana data source settings for the Cognite connector.

  2. Check the feature flags - the legacy query tabs (Time series search, Time series from asset, etc.) may be disabled. Re-enable them if so.

  3. Once the legacy tabs are visible in your dashboard panel editor, use Time series search and type your tag name or description (e.g., VAL_23-TT-92537:X.Value) to find and select your classic time series.
