Building upon the recent enhancements of waypoints and ghosting, the ability to walk a user to a location from their current location or a selected start point is a use case for our contractors during daily maintenance or Turnaround activities. Often contractors have never been onsite and navigation to the work area or a specific asset would be helpful.

Think google maps walking feature or  a line that connects scan points in the 3d model to guide the user to the location.

Hi @Andrew Wagner

Interesting idea. Would you say that this would be a growing need? As in, in the future would there be more contractors coming in, or workers unfamiliar to the site?

Any time soon, one of our customers will test out using a mini map navigation. I guess we could also look into the option of leveraging 2D and 3D. We could show the best path to an area on top of the mini map. What do you think?

@Ragnhild Byrkjeland  - I’ll let @Andrew Wagner  weigh in as well but I would say the first question about “Growing Need” is a strong “yes”. We are seeing people stay in roles for less time, more flexibility in work locations (remote, hybrid, etc), and the need for digital / VR / AR training abilities in our business.

Here are some use cases we have discussed that this functionality would be helpful in:

  • Training for new operators / engineers / maintenance technicians. Value: Ability to find where they need to be going faster.
  • Pairing with our procedure and LOTO programs. Value: Ability to walk someone through procedures to ensure they go to the correct place next
  • Remote planning job walkdowns. Value: Individuals can plan jobs from anywhere then use this to walk down those plans when they go to the site. Increase in number of jobs walked down per day.
  • Egress options in the event of an emergency. Value: Can get people not familiar with the plant out of harm's way without sending someone in to lead them out of the process area.
  • Turnaround / outage job finding. Value: Contractors / maintenance professionals can get to where they need to be without worrying about taking a wrong turn. Increased work efficiency.
