Is there any way to ODBC DNS for Snowflake Extractor instead of putting username and password in YAML?

Hello,

I have trying to use the ODBC extractor to pull data from Snowflake, I could do that by following instructions here https://docs.cognite.com/cdf/integration/guides/extraction/configuration/db/#-snowflake

However, this requires me to put passwords in YAML config. Is there anyway to use DSN from ODBC instead? I see that connection-string parameter is not supported when I choose type as snowflake.

Thanks!

Hi @Tanmay Deshpande,

Can you please check whether the documentation here helps for your usecase?

Hi @Mithila Jayalath  The question is not if Snowflake supports ODBC, the question is if Cognite ODBC extractor supports passing DSN option while configuring the extractor. https://docs.cognite.com/cdf/integration/guides/extraction/configuration/db/#-snowflake

@Peet Cremer  Can you help with this query?

If it is not supported today, it will be good to implement something to avoid security scan failures considering username and password are not encrypted.

@Mithila Jayalath If it is not supported (once Peet responds), then can we convert this into a product idea?

@Tanmay Deshpande,

Unfortunately, the DB extractor does not currently support DSN configuration for the Snowflake source system "flavor" (personality), and we do not have any plans for supporting it in the near future (next quarter or two) as we're fully loaded with work. I can reassess the need, and our schedule, to consider adding generic DSN support for more DB/ODBC connected flavors supported by the DB Extractor, in about 6 months or so.

@Aditya Kotiyal see Thomas’s response. Not supported for now, but could be evaluated in 6 months.

FYI, we have added support for Oauth2 for the Snowflake provider in the DB Extractor. Hopefully this helps mitigate the challenges leading to the DSN config support?

Thanks @Thomas Sjølshagen

This comes at a good time, will touch base with you in person.
