Feature Request: Snap-to-Grid & Object Alignment for Industrial Canvas

Overview

Introduce standard snap-to-grid and object alignment functionality within Industrial Canvas to improve the ease of organizing, positioning, and aligning objects.

Currently, manually positioning objects can be time-consuming, especially when building structured canvases containing multiple documents, images, diagrams, and other visual elements.

Proposed Functionality

Provide users with optional snapping and alignment capabilities, including:

• Snap to Grid: Automatically align objects to predefined grid increments when moving or resizing.

• Snap to Objects: Automatically align objects with nearby objects using edges, centers, and consistent spacing.

• Smart Alignment Guides: Display temporary visual guidelines when objects are aligned.

• Configurable Settings: Allow users to independently enable or disable grid snapping, object snapping, and visible gridlines.

• Multi-Object Support: Maintain relative alignment when moving groups of objects.

Business Value

• Reduces time spent manually arranging and aligning objects.

• Improves canvas readability, consistency, and overall presentation.

• Makes it easier to create and maintain structured layouts.

• Provides a more intuitive user experience consistent with common whiteboard and diagramming applications.
