How-to guide for the Dataset Selection (Generic Canvas guideline)

Current State

When pasting data, pictures or files into Canvas, users are faced with a long list of “Datasets” and no clear guidance on which one to select. This is confusing and leads to uncertainty, especially since the correct dataset is not obvious and many datasets are not relevant, and a loss of time searching or guessing the correct dataset.

Ideal State

The end-users know exactly which dataset to select when adding files to Canvas. The process is quick, clear, and error-free, with minimal cognitive load.

Here is are the instructions on HOW to do it, actionable guidance for users on which dataset to select.

SOLUTION (HOW TO) do it Today
1) When the file upload dialog appears in Canvas, start typing “Industrial Canvas” in the “Select dataset” drop-down menu.
2) The dataset “1-Industrial Canvas and Charts” will appear and should be selected for all captured files.
3) Click “Upload” and the file will be saved into Canvas and selected CDF dataset. 

If the Dataset is not available, please contact your CDF IT Admin and they will create the dataset.
