Options for creating different variables of x-axis rather than only time

Thanks for the request. Could you provide some use cases where the x-axis would need to be a different variable (other than time), so we can evaluate?

There were a few times where our engineer estimate flows through a control valve, taking account upstream, downstream condition and more importantly control valve opening. If user wanted to study valve characteristics, thus they will plot estimated flow vs opening.
