Currently, the asset search for template creation uses the assets/search endpoint, which according to the documentation does a "best-effort fuzzy search in relevant fields" (currently only on name and description) (as told by Mithila Jayalath). On behalf of Celanese, I would like that either this search took into consideration the external ID as well, or the list of results displayed the results’ external id. I want this to be able to determine which asset is refering to the equipment and which asset is refering to the general hierarchy, as the external ID is a easy way to determine this in our project.

Hi @Giovanna Luna Rosseto ! Thanks for this request.

Would you tell me a bit more about the workflow you are trying to achieve - am I right to assume the goal here is to connect the template in the right place? Wonder if there are other options how we can help you with this and possible workarounds in the mean time!

Would seeing the external ID in the results resolve the issue, or would do you need to search by external id? Having better access/interaction with the hierarchy when connecting something e.g. a template, observation etc. is something we are looking into.

Hello @Marius Biermann!

Yes, the idea is to connect to the right level in the hierarchy, because we see lots of points where the name for a location and the name for an important equipment are the same, but only the equipment itself would have information such as Catalog profile and Manufacturer for example. We aim to select the Equipment itself.

Currently, the external ids tell me what are the actual equipments and what are locations, so seeing it would be enough to select the asset correctly. I can think of cases where searching by the external id would be useful as well, but I think just seeing it would be enough for the majority of these types of issues for most of the sites.

Looking foward to different ways to link the assets though!
