We have just released this behavior into the product. Once you turn off the connection lines for your canvas, this preference is kept the next time you open the canvas.

​@Andreea Oprea  Can we possibly add the same function to “Annotations”? There are situations where I want these to remain off on a canvas.

Please let me know if that’s not the case in your project.
