Question

Sort and filter Custom apps list

Hi,

I cannot find a way to sort the list of Custom apps: Flows → Custom apps. Am I missing it?

If it it has not been implemented, it would be convenient to be able to sort them by name, creation date, update date,  author, etc. The app list in abp-dev is long and sorting would help in finding quickly the app of interest. There is the possibility of filtering by keywords, but one does not always know the app’s name.

Hi @Ada ! Thank you for the feedback.

I understand that it can be a challenge to find Custom Apps “of interest” when there’s a growing amount of applications available.

Are you typically using the same applications on a regular basis? If so, are you aware that you can “pin” apps that are important to you? See my screenshots above. This does two things 1) Pinned apps are directly accessible in your navigation bar at all times and 2) The “Custom apps” list view will always show your pinned apps on top.

What would be the most important fields for you to sort on to find “the app of interest”? E.g. I would assume creation/updated data is important to see “what’s new”, but I’m not sure what sorting on “name” would provide in addition to the list view + keyword search. Other ideas on how we can ensure that “the app of interest” is surfaced to you beyond sorting?

Hi Kristoffer, thanks a lot for your answer. Yes, I am aware of the possibility of pinning apps. In this occasion I wanted to discover apps related to the work I’m doing, so I was trying to “discover what’s out there”. Pinning will be useful once I find relevant apps.

As you say, important fields for the sorting would be creation of the app and update data are important. But also alphabetical order, so again “name”. I found out apps are not ordered alphabetically when looking for my own app, named ACIA. Of course, I can look for it in the keywords since I know the name of my own app. But I was surprised it was not on top of the list (for some reason I had assumed alphabetical order was the rule).

While searching for apps relevant to a task I am doing (anomaly detection), alphabetical sorting is useful if you know the topic/theme of the app, but not its exact name. Then I could look in the list starting with “a” without necessarily knowing the whole name of the app. The 2 anomaly detection apps I found in abp-dev were scattered along the list, quite separated from each other.

In other words, apps with a similar topic/name would appear together in the same “alphabetical region” of the list.

Since you ask, another way of surfacing apps of interest (even if one does not know the its name) would be by topic, providing the app creator has provided appropriate keywords. For example by asset, by discipline, etc.

    Best regards,
    Ada

I agree that some type of grouping/tagging of custom applications makes a lot of sense.

One more thing on this. Are you also aware of the “Ask Atlas AI” chat? Atlas is “aware” of custom apps that exists the project, so this is also a way to find applications relevant for the work you’re doing.

The chat sounds good, it can help, thanks!

But yes, agree with you, tagging and grouping of custom apps would be very useful :) is this something you plan of implementing?
