Workflows Early Adopter Beta Release

Jørgen Lund
Seasoned Practitioner

Hey there! We are thrilled to announce the Early Adopter Beta release of CDF Workflows.

CDF Workflows is a managed process orchestration service within CDF. Using CDF Workflows, you can effectively coordinate the order and timely execution of interdependent processes such as Transformations, Functions, requests to CDF, and dynamic tasks effectively.

Key Highlights

  1. Declarative Workflow Definition
We have designed Workflow Orchestration with a declarative approach. Users need to specify the tasks to be orchestrated, input parameters, and the desired execution order. This intuitive approach we believe reduces complexity and lowers the bar for adaption.

  2. Orchestrating four different processes
The Workflow Orchestration service supports the orchestration of four crucial types of processes: Transformations, Functions, CDF, and Dynamic Tasks. This versatility ensures that our workflows can leverage various functionalities, optimizing productivity.

  3. Versioning Capabilities
Managing changes and iterations is essential, which is why Workflow Orchestration offers robust versioning capabilities. This allows us to create and manage different versions of our workflow definition, ensuring adaptability and tracking evolution.

  4. Comprehensive API specification and documentation
We are excited to provide you with a detailed API specification and documentation. This will facilitate seamless integration and interaction with the service. You can access the documentation here, and the API specification here.

Try it out, and let us know your thoughts in the comments!

Please note:

  • Learnings during the Early Adopter Beta period may result in a requirement to make breaking changes to API spec. If relevant, we will inform about such changes in this group.
  • The graphical user interface for CDF Workflows in Fusion is considered an Alpha release, and subject to change.
  • During the Early Adopter Beta, Cognite developers will have access to workflow execution details for all CDF projects to speed up the process of bug fixing and supporting early testers of the service. For a limited time, this means that Cognite developers could inspect specific workflow execution details if required, including data stored in input and output parameters of the workflow (this does not include data processed by the steps in the workflow, such as in a Function or Transformation). We recommend to avoid storing sensitive information in the workflow execution object itself.
