More context: our plants predominantly use point cloud or 360 3D models vs CAD due to the cost and timelines to create them. We have existing PC/360 that can be quickly used if this was enabled.
We do understand this need, and also see a trend where CAD are becoming less relevant, and we have more usage of Point Cloud and 360 images. To enable us to move quicker within the 3D space, we are now building a unified 3D experience, where all of our applications using 3D will be powered by the same viewer and widget behind the scenes. The teams adopting this experience, will be enabled to toggle relevant features on and off, based on their users needs.
The new 3D experience builds on what you have in the browsing 3D experience in CDF, where we leverage the concept of a scene. Here you can view point cloud and 360 together in one view, which can be of high value by helping with the spatial context and the visual details.
I am currently discussing with the Maintain team, how and when they can adopt this. Though, the Maintain 3D experience has some functionality currently not supported, and of course we want to cover that before it is launched into Maintain.
Long answer for stating that you will get 360 images and point clouds in Maintain, with the new and improved 3D experience, and we are settling on a timeline soon. Will keep you posted.
