We use CDF to store model result that in essence is a dataframe with datetime index and multiple columns for each scenario/attribute/timeseries. This could be a weather forecast model or a hydropower optimization model etc. We wish to store the model results as a sequence as the values are related to the same model run and would require a significant amount of timeseries (given that the models are run several times a day and produce thousands of timeseries for each run). We would therefore appriciate if sequences would support datetime index, and not just int. This would reduce the code we need to wrap around the cdf client in order to store our dataframes.

Hello! Thanks for coming to us with this feature request.  I’m the product manager for our Time Series and OT backend services, and I’ll be handling this request.

The sequences service was originally built to service subsurface logs and we’re somewhat limited in the features we’re able to add to this without it becoming a significant investment.

Instead, we’re in the planning and designing phase of a new analytics service, which will integrate with our Data Modelling backend.  This service is being designed to store and process huge datasets (billions of rows), and will be flexible enough for us to define schemas and index structures for many different types of logs, alarms and events.

If this sounds like it might fit your purpose, I’d be glad to have a conversation with you to learn more about your use case.

Kind Regards, Glen

Thank you for your answer!

This definitely sounds like something we could use, and would love to hear more. We've already discussed internally that we should have a meeting with your timeseries-team to present our needs, while also learning what's in the pipeline from your side. I'll follow this up internally, and you'll probably hear from us.

Hi again, can I ask what the status is for the new analytics service and if you have a preliminary timeline for when the service is planned for (beta) release or testing?

Hi Oivind,

We’re currently targeting end of 2024 or Jan 2025 for a public beta.

However, we are also looking to open up for a limited number of customers for alpha testing in the next month or so.  We’re just ironing out the last of the really critical pieces before we do that.

Let me know if inclusion in our alpha testing is interesting to you and if so, let’s have a chat.

Kind Regards, Glen
