Hello,

Could we define default filters, locations, column list in search UI to not redo the same work every time we connect to industrial tools search UI.

Could you please transform this into a feature request if this is not available today?

Thanks

@Marwen TALEB Thanks for the input, I see you got this moved into product ideas.

@Anders Albert, actually it is a different topic here. Thanks

Hi @Marwen TALEB thank you for bringing this up again, as it might got stuck. And I agree that it doesn’t match the topic from last post.

If I understand you correct you want to provide your users more tailored search experience?

  1. “Location filters” are already today, which support some filters
    1. typically classic resource-type and datasets, 3D scene or DM model, version and spaces
  2. And your feature-request is to support more predefined-filters, which a user has to rebuild today every time?
    1. Until this might be supported → your filters (once created per category!) can be bookmarked. And within the same Fusion session, they are remembered even if you switch cdf-projects. Which allows you to save and share complex filters. Not exactly what you asked for, but seems to be possible today.
  3. Another feature-request is to preserve the selected and sorted columns
    1. they are different for each category (listed on left hand side navigator)
    2. Sadly those cannot be bookmarked, but is persisted in your browser “Local-Storage”. The amount of data might otherwise break the URL length limits.

Trying to specify your feature-idea requirements before sharing with product-team:

  1. Please comment if my above summary is reflecting what you have asked for
  2. How do you want the feature to work when a user wants to change a predefined “default”?
    1. background: This is not possible today after an user has selected a “location filter”, the presets cannot be changed, without switching to another “location filter”.
  3. Do you think that “location filter” is a good place to add all your additional defaults? Or do you think an additional configuration is needed?
    1. background: “location filters” are configured on a CDF project level, not configurable for individual users

best regards

Peter

Hi!

I’ll jump in here as the Product Manager for Search - thank you for this feedback and questions, @Marwen TALEB!

I’ve listed questions and answers;

  • Q1: Can one define default filters?
    • A1:
      • We do have functionality to define “preset”/saved filters today, although it has to be a request to Cognite team to create them on your behalf (and they will be available for all users in the project). We do want to make this functionality available for individual end-users too, but I do not have a clear timeline yet.
      • Filters available for end-users are today a flat list without option to sort or arrange them after relevancy. This will soon change, as we are in the coming 5-7 weeks releasing a way to configure default ordering of filters (and columns) for all users.
  • Q2: Can one define default Location?
    • A2: No, we do not have this option today. We store location selection in local storage, meaning that it will persist on the same advice unless you clear the cache. We do however want to tie Location selection to the user profile, so that we can properly persist the selection (also across devices). Likely, this is something we will achieve during Q3 or Q4 this year.
  • Q3: Can one define default column selection?
    • A3: Very soon, yes. As mentioned under Q1, we are currently working in a configuration interface where Admins can configure default representation of data to all users in the project. This will include defining default selection and order of columns.

Please let me know if your questions were answered, or if I missed the mark.
Best,
Sofie Berge, Product Manager
