When bringing a file into Canvas, a drop down comes up asking the user to Select a Space.  If the correct Space isn’t selected, then the file can’t be added.  Users shouldn’t need to select a space, it should be defaulted.!--scriptorstartfragment-->

We actually like the ability for our users to select which space to use. We have created specific “User Generated Content” spaces for each site and named them with their site so they can select their site. The thought behind this is to allow us to organize the content and potentially contextualize the data and also compare it to existing data for duplicate instances.

We would be in support of a default bucket for the users currently selected location, with the option to change if needed.

I am not quite clear on the value you mention above around “user Generated Content” spaces.  The problem is that there is not default and you are getting a big list of spaces you should not write to. We need the ability to filter which spaces you should see in the list and ideally set a default space per user group.

@John Cassidy thanks for asking for clarification. You can limit what spaces users see in this list by scoping their “write” access. We have limited them to only be able to see datasets that we want. For example, below the ones with black boxes are examples of the datasets they can see. I can see more due to my greater access. If you wanted to “default” to just one place you could create one space and limit them to only have access to write to it. The other spaces will disappear from the list. (image 1)

Canvas is the only place we allow general users to add content; all our other datasets are fed from source systems and we direct them to use the source system within their normal business processes vs Cognite. This helps it go through repeatable ingestion and contextualization pipelines based on the source system rules.

You would set your general users to have write access to ONLY those data sets.  We created both a line for read only (image 2) and write (image 3) so we could specify the exact files we want them to be able to write to vs writing all file they can read.

READ ALL - image 2

WRITE ONLY - image 3

Hope this explains my message a bit more.
