Please add the ability to globally enable metadata categories as default columns.

  • For example on files - since the majority of our files are P&IDs (and the file titles are numbers) we would like to have the metadata categories such as drawing title or description a default option for our network rather than have to show everyone how to add it every time they log in - a large population are not computer savvy and this would help with product integration/user friendliness.

Hi @etatetoohey !
Thank you for giving this feedback! I’m excited to share that this is cooking right now. For the new Search (you might have seen the group here on Hub) we will give project Admins the option to programatically configure project wide defaults. These defaults will include, as you request, the option to select which metadata columns to show by default, and the ordering of them.

I’ll update you once this is available.

Hi @etatetoohey !
We ran into some roadblocks, but the Admin configuration of Search (define which metadata/properties to use as Name/description of files, and selecting default columns to view per resource type) is coming up in Q1.

Hi!
Admins can now configure default columns, filters, and properties displayed (including the order of them) in the Search application and “add data” panel in Charts and Canvas for all users in the project (open beta functionality).

Here are the release notes: https://docs.cognite.com/cdf/whatsnew/#june-2025

Let us know if you have feedback!
