Cognite SAP extractor:Support for OData V4.0 Endpoints

Related products:Extractors

We kindly request your support in enhancing the SAP extractor to include support for OData V4.0 endpoints.

By extending the compatibility of the extractor to encompass OData V4.0, we can seamlessly extract the required data from SAP, enabling us to optimize our integration processes and derive valuable insights from our SAP data.

The addition of support for OData V4.0 endpoints would significantly enhance the functionality and utility of the SAP extractor. OData V4.0 is the latest version of the OData protocol, offering improvements in areas such as performance, scalability, and flexibility compared to previous versions. By enabling the SAP extractor to communicate with OData V4.0 endpoints, users would benefit from enhanced performance and compatibility, ensuring a smoother and more efficient data extraction process.

A lot of SAP API’s are on  OData V4.0 and having the support will enable us to progress on ingestion of these API’s

One example of an OData V4 functionality is the `track-changes` option (with delta links). This can be used to implement incremental loads.
As explained in this article: when the option is enabled on the server side (and the `Prefer: odata.track-changes` parameter is passed in the request header),  the returns a deltatoken which can be used as part of the subsequent request to only fetch the delta between the current and previous query.

I have come across a few servers that supported this approach  and didn’t support $orderby (which is what is currently used for in the extractor for loading data incrementally).

We’re working on OData 4 support in the SAP Extractor. Uncertain as to whether the new release, when made available, also will include the header support required to enable the full extent of your track-changes comment @Jeremy, but it’s being investigated.
