It is becoming clear that Cognite UI/UX is not intuitive for a global scale of sites. How do I not create a laundry list of data sets in the drop down below for each sites? Is there a way to select sites and create a navigation to the right data view of that site and a global view...these challenges remain from a usability perspective.

To be honest - CDF just feels like a data dump.

@ibrahim.alsyed this point is noted and is on our list to discuss with Cognite Teams.

Hi,

Thank you for raising this. I understand your need to have a better way to filter down the subsets of data that are relevant to people in your company, based on the site they are on or type of data they are interested in.

We have seen customers navigate the complexities of multiple sites in different ways. Narrowing down data has typically been though
a) Hierarchies  b) Filters and 3) Search.

And as we’ve seen, customers want to move from selecting from a long list of data sets -> finding the right data product, starting in a data catalogue or through the data explorer. This concept is maturing in Cognite Data Fusion with data products and Data Catalogue.

We look forward to any sessions to solve this in a good way together.

Best regards, Knut.

Hi! Wanted to jump in and provide an update. First version of the concept of a “site”/location has been implemented and tested over the last 2 months. Based on feedback from testing, we are moving forward with this concept and will support site/location (and n level of selections below site/location). We are working on the architecture for this and will ensure to communicate ones ready for use. Until then, selected Cognite products have the option to select site; the APM business applications and the new business/SME targeted data explorer.

@Sofie Svartdal Berge are there any updates since the last one? Thank you!

Hi @Marcela Young !
Yes, we have the concept of “Sites” available in Search, released in April for Sites to be available for resource selection to Canvas, and are continuing to implement this concept across the Cognite portfolio - with an upgraded backend. Estimated that all tools and solutions within the Industrial tools workspace have the Site concept implemented by end of Q4.

Best,

Sofie Berge, Product Manager

Hi @ibrahim.alsyed and @Marcela Young

Providing an update on this topic:
You have seen Sites/Locations in use for some quarters now. The location functionality is already available in Search, Canvas, and Charts. In our September release, the functionality was extended to support nested locations/hierarchies of locations, like having Location A with its units, and so on.

In the September release, we also released support for configuring locations through CDF toolkit, documented here https://docs.cognite.com/cdf/configure/locations/

In the December release, we are further expanding the location concept with an Admin user interface for configuring the locations.

Note: The concept of Locations is a way of filtering data, and therefore, the granularity of locations one can create is tied to how the data has been modeled.

Best,

Sofie Berge, Product Manager
