I am following up on the ability to view native files such as DWG and DGN in Cognite? We were promised that this will be enabled at some point.

Hi @ibrahim.alsyed thanks for request.
Could you please provide more information about which type of files are you interested in?

Thanks and regards

We've recently included the capability to convert DWG files to PDF in our roadmap, aiming to offer a smoother workflow for our users. However, it's important to note that direct visualization of DWG files within CDF is not currently included in our roadmap.

I really need this feature. In addition i need to convert and also interpret both DWG and DGN files and possibly convert them to DEXPI formats, but at least get text and lines out of them to do the annotations better.

We have 65 000 DWG files in our CDF tenant. and the value of enabling those with annotations and also on the preview in fusion and infield would be fantastic!

A tool like this we could use on the API would definitely help us.

In addition, its much easier to extract useful information out of native .DWG files than it is to try and scan and parse out PDF versions, because its just plain text vs having the info flattened and then re-scanned.

How are we doing with implementation of this feature, is this now on the roadmap? @Elka Sierra @Armin Gharakhanloo

If we could convert them to DEXPI format and get all the information from the DWG and DGN files directly then we would no longer need to rely solely on annotating the PDF files. In other words, converting DWG and DGN to PDF is the icing on the cake, but extracting the info from the CAD files is the cake itself.

Hi,

Unfortunately, this feature request is being delayed due to higher priority initiatives. Based on user feedback so far, we’ve found that simply converting DGN/DWG files to PDFs, as initially planned, does not provide an optimal user experience. Instead, we should aim to support DGN/DWG files natively, from viewing to contextualization.
We’re adding this to our longer term backlog and will keep gathering interest. Thank you for your patience!

Best regards,
Que

I totally agree Que. Both converting PDFs from dwgs and dgns are important and nice. But support for CAD files directly to visualize the files is exactly like stated by  @Markus Pettersen “the cake itself”.
