We assumed that viewing documents from MS OFFICE suite would have been easy access from the Cognite Ecosystem but it appears they are a challenge. It is important that we can seamlessly view the files including excel, word and powerpoints in the browser via CDF or Cognite app without it being a PDF version. Converting Excel into PDF does not make sense. There are several ways embedded browser viewing can be enabled for this without asking users to download it.

This is mostly important for tablets and hand held devices where people may not have MS OFFICE apps on the devices and we do not want to download documents on the devices.

While a future evolution of Remote is planned for tablets (requires gesture support and a new UI to accommodate small screens and gestures), tablets are not in scope for Remote at the moment. Hence, we assume that users on desktops can open MS Office files by downloading from Remote and then opening them up using Windows File Explorer / MS Office. Therefore,  the ability to open up these files in the Remote application will not be worked at the moment.
