Reading PID files.

Forum|alt.badge.img

Hello Team

I have a .pid file, generated from the https://hexagon.com/products/intergraph-smart-p-id  software. Is there a way in CDF to read the files directly - meaning I’d like to see the vector, layers and properties natively and not rely on generating a PDF and doing an OCR.

If I must write a connector myself, how do I go about it? Is there an industry standard format for .pid file, is so perhaps there is business case to commercialize such a connector?

Appreciate your hints!

Regards

Alex

Hi Alex,

For product updates, you can stay in the loop here https://hub.cognite.com/product-updates.

As for converting from PID to DEXPI, sorry, I don't have an answer. However, concerning our long-term roadmap for reading DEXPI files, we're considering going directly from DEXPI to the knowledge graph. This approach would eliminate the need for any additional conversions.

Regards,

Que

Hi Alex,

I regret to inform you that currently, we don't have a way to read such files directly. As you mentioned, the files will need to be converted to PDF format first. However, we are actively developing an exciting new product which reads vector content from PDF files and generates a knowledge graph. We aim to make this product available by the end of the year. Stay tuned for further updates and features!

Regarding the industrial standard format for PID, as far as I see, DEXPI is gaining popularity. While CDF currently does not have product support for reading DEXPI files, we have done several PoC which had materialized as adding this functionality to our long term product roadmap.

Best regards,

Que

Hi Que

Thanks for your response, it’s reassuring to know that the connectors to these files (or related formats) are being developed. Please keep me posted - where  can I read about these PoCs

Also just to be clear, is there a way to convert the PID files into DEXPI format and then import them with full fidelity and vector info?

Regards

Alex

Does this also mean that one can load and visualize DEXPI in CDF. Or just the ability to read DEXPI data and using the content in a data model?

Hi Øystein,

At present, we haven't finalized our plans for supporting the visualization of DEXPI files. We're gathering interest in DEXPI and will carefully evaluate all feature requests as we begin work on DEXPI support in CDF.

Best regards,

Que
