Do you have 20-30 minutes this week to help us improve Charts?

Hi!

Im a designer,  working on improving the front page of Charts.
I would love to talk to 4 of you, to get feedback on our thought so far. I will show you what we are thinking, and you can help us move forward in the right direction.

Comment here, or send me a mail to emmy.reehorst@cognite.com

We want to do this for more features and improvement in the future. So even though we only need to talk to four of you this time, there will be several more opportunities in the future!

Thank you Emmy.

There are several areas of focus that we’d like implemented in Charts that I believe are already on your roadmap. The core elements of interest to Hess are the following:

  • Collaboration - being able to build a chart and allow others to make edits to that same chart rather than duplicate it. This is critical not only for collaboration, but for when people move in and out of the group to allow for those that get replaced to make edits to existing charts rather than duplicating them
  • Annotations - being able to add notes to a chart that then gets auto-contextualized to the timeseries that’s currently on the chart. It would be even better if you could pull up existing annotations to a new chart also so as to not have to maintain annotations on a single chart
  • Dashboarding - although I don’t think the intent of charts was to replace existing dashboarding tools, it would be great to have the ability to look at a collection of charts that are related on a single screen (all production related charts on a given facility, or all rotating pump charts, etc.). It would make the transition away from existing tools (like PI Process Book) over to something like Charts with these capabilities in place. Otherwise, people will continue to revert back to their existing tools

Would be interested to hear feedback from your other clients on what they would like to see improved in Charts.

Thank you,

Richard Maidla (Hess Corporation)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts Richard!
You are right, the things you mention is on our roadmap. Priorities are not a set thing, and its super helpful for us to hear what you think is the most important improvements overall moving forward.

Could I or someone in the team contact you when we start working on one of the areas you mention? It would be great to digg into what exactly your needs are, to make sure we build a service that will meet those needs.

Hey @rmaidla, as always, thanks for all of the detailed and thoughtful input!

The team and I are working on our roadmapping and planning for H1 2022, which I plan to share with you all in our Charts EA group as soon as we have discussed and locked in more details (after the start of the new year).

As you and I have talked about in the past, these items you mentioned – specifically Collaboration and Annotations – are still on our roadmap and high on our priority list. As @Emmy Reehorst wrote above, someone on our team will definitely be in touch with you and others at Hess to hear more about your needs and goals with these new features.

I’m also planning to host a “New Features & Feedback” webinar (similar to the one we hosted last week) over Microsoft Teams about both our roadmap for 2022 and about Collaboration and Annotations, for a more open and general discussion around these topics.

We’re also curious about what others would like to see improved in Charts! On that note, we recently added this Product Feedback page to Cognite Hub, where anyone could post a feature request or idea and upvote it.

Would you mind copying what you wrote above for CollaborationAnnotations, and Dashboarding and adding them each as three separate “product feedback” post? (see GIF below)

You should use the Cognite Data Fusion (CDF)  as the “Product Area,” but you can certainly mention Charts in the name of your feature request.

Again, thanks and we all appreciate your input! Looking forward to discussing more soon.
