Cognite Data Fusion: Help the user be in control, support flexible columns in tables

Related products: Search and Data Exploration

During discussions with user and customers, we realize they want to be in control of the information displayed, especially in tables. They are not necessarily happy with the default and fixed column selections.
Currently, column selections are mostly set in stone while the user may want to access specific metadata/native attributes.

To bring the control back to the user, shouldn’t any table in fusion UI and charts (and othr applications) support:

  • adding/removing/editing columns
  • select what attribute a column displays (metadata or native)
  • Filter the table by one or more columns content with ==, >, < and include operators
  • Sort the table by one or more columns
  • Group the table by one or more columns
  • Saving the current selection of column/grouping/sorting/filtering between sessions

?

Forgot to add an example in Fusion UI, above.

NewGathering Interest

Hi Philippe,

Thank you for the feedback. The team is working on redesigning the table view and adding new features. As first iteration we are looking into:

  • Adding/removing columns
  • Filter the table by one or more columns content with “=”
  • Sort the table by one or more columns

As we iterate will bring more capabilities as you suggested.

Thank you,

Andreea

  • Saving the current selection of column between sessions

The remaining items will be taken into development for the next release (February).

Gathering InterestPlanned for development

@Philippe Bettler you can find the December Release announcement here :)

@Andreea Pastinaru  based on the release on CDF to improve this, if i make changes, is the configurable available to all or does everyone has to do their own.

@Philippe Bettler  can we now have a dedicated session with adam to organize columns

Hi Ibrahim,

The changes are saved based on user configuration. So each user needs to do their own configuration.

This is just a first feature for enabling configuration. Part of our 2023 roadmap is to add more configurability options and user identity.

Thank you,
Andreea.
