any other means of populating FDM besides transforms?

Using transformations to create/update data can be cumbersome especially for complex FDM models. I understand there are plans to generate APIs from models, but are there any alternatives in the short term, such as implementing GraphQL mutations? Are the APIs used by transformations internal to CDF?

Adding to this. Is it possible to use the Python SDK in order to ‚Äúplay‚ÄĚ around with FDM?

Hello, and thanks for the great questions!

Whilst FDM is in pre-production, Transformations remains the way for data model creation / updates whilst changes to the underlying APIs are in flight.  We need to have the ability to make breaking changes to these APIs as we develop and Transformations protects our consumers from those.

At General Availability (Feb 2023), we plan to make the API available, and the documentation may be made available in advance of that.

Graph QL mutations are in the roadmap, and a stretch goal for our GA release.

Python SDK update is not in the scope for GA, but it will be updated to support FDM soon after release.

Thanks a lot Glen.

Will the GA release from February 2023 also generate a new version for the CDF Power BI connector that will include the possibility of consuming data from the Flexible Data Model entity?

Thanks

The GA release will not include an updated Power BI connector that supports data from FDM, but this is planned later on. Will keep this thread updated.

Hi Anders,

Could you please indicate when the Power BI connector is planned to support FDM data?
Thanks

Hi, Marius.

We are still estimating the efforts, and there is a delay in the approval process with Microsoft, but we aim for 1-2 releases after GA.

We will post in this thread when we have better estimates.

What is your key use case for using PowerBI with FDM?

Best regards, Knut

I want to know about status of API for populating data to FDM. It was mentioned that it will be released in Feb,2023. Can i Get? any documentation link? Which can help me showing API way to populate data to FDM?

Hi @sarojbala,

We had to push the GA release of Enhanced Data Modeling (FDM) out to our April release. At that point, the documentation for all of the approaches we intend to support for accessing and managing data and data models in FDM will be made available to the public.
