I'm seeking help and guidance from customers who have tackled or enabled features to improve the LINES when connecting files and assets within Cognite Canvas.

We seek to have our connected lines more accurately flow and follow P&IDs as they are added to the canvas.  Making the lines conform and adjust vs. extending across the visuals on the canvas.

This means these lines should follow the “path” on the connected P&ID where they begin on the document vs. connecting randomly into the side of the document.

Hello, thank you for reaching out, it seems to make sense. I will add that suggestion to our backlog and discuss it with the team.

@Mustafa Ilker Sarac  - Thank you!
The key element we’re designing for is extending the File-File relationships and seeking to have our connections follow the paths of the P&IDs.  When performing P&ID walkdowns, if we can make these connection paths follow directly to where on the file they connected, it can significantly help the user experience.  This can also help when performing isolation and lock-out activities.
@Andrew Wagner

Navigating through P&IDs is quite painful unless you can add hyperlinks or buttons to go from one place to another. I really thought CDF would automate this, but I see this feature is not yet mature enough.

What could work is a sort of tuned contextualisation engine for this purpose only so that we would be given “navigation links” on the P&ID. This would be different than the regular contextualisation in the sense that links would not point to an asset but to another tag in another PDF file. The “special contextualisation engine” would have the ability to link items that include keywords like “from” and “to” which usually appear in these types of documents.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your feedback!
This is definitely on our radar for improvement. Work is already being done in this regard, which will improve the contextualization flow and make the relationship lines more precise.

Improvements are planned to be released in Q2 2025.
@Que Tran Do you have any extra feedback on the above?

Thank you,
Andreea.
