Cognite InField 2.0: Template Formatting Flexibility (Tables)

Related products: InField

On behalf of Celanese InField super users:

Currently, InField only supports an itemized list view when creating templates. However, for Maintenance applications, I would like to see some flexibility in template formatting to allow support for tables (multiple columns and rows) similar to original Excel forms today. Given that maintenance checklists cover multiple inspection criteria per equipment, a list is not the ideal interface as the users would be required to scroll through a long list of items.

Hi @crgomez13!

We really want to support “Maintenance checklists”, so thank you for this feedback.

Given that maintenance checklists cover multiple inspection criteria per equipment, a list is not the ideal interface as the users would be required to scroll through a long list of items

Based on this statement I believe there are numerous ways to support this need. Offering a format with tables is one of them, but in general we’re a bit cautious with format changes as it will have an impact on the experience using a mobile or tablet. The excel format is great on desktop, but I’m not convinced that it is the best on smaller devices out in the field.

One option is of course to make inspection checklist templates per equipment. Making checklist templates more fit-for-purpose for these types of checklist and surfacing them in the “asset explorer” is something we are planning to do. Would that make sense for this use case?

If they still are envisioning to have one big checklist covering multiple “inspection sub-sections per equipment” the other option I would envision is extended filtering in the checklist. Today you are able to filter on a specific Asset/Tag in a checklist and only see tasks related to that one. We could also further extend it to have a “filter search” type of functionality, e.g. show we all tasks related to “CL_29….”? Would that make sense for this use case?

@Kristoffer Knudsen is see this request has been parked. Is this still something that is being explored? I agree there may be other ways to address this. I believe the ability to add multiple checklist elements to a single line item is a step in the right direction to make the user experience more streamlined.

@Kristoffer Knudsen Please is this product idea still being explored?

@Benjamin A Onweni @crgomez13

These checklist templates/procedures per equipment/equipment type is on the roadmap, and we do want to have the available from the “asset/ data explorer” when looking at a specific asset.

Search & filtering in a checklist, my second point above, is also on the roadmap. Currently planned for our June release.

We have discussed internally with Ram and agree this is high priority for Celanese.
