Sharing Charts without having to make a Chart "public"

Related products: Charts

Filling out on behalf of an engineer super user:

A user may not want to make a given Chart public if they are verifying the validity of a calculation. The user should have the ability to share a private Chart with the users of their choosing.

Thank you for sharing this Product idea @Marcela Young.

I have notified the lead product manager, @Andreea Pastinaru..

Next you should expect her, or a member of her team, to review this information, ask follow-up questions, and process.it for consideration for the Charts roadmap.

Hi Marcela,

We have taken this request as part of the roadmap. Will keep you up to date as soon as we have a more clear timeline.

Thank you,

Andreea.

Being able to share personal charts using a link to specific email addresses or just by sharing the link to the chart (like we had done with checklists in Infield) would be beneficial.

Thank you for highlighting the need to share private charts selectively. I'd like to clarify a couple of points to ensure our solution meets your requirements:

  1. When you mention sharing a chart, do you envision this primarily as granting a "read-only" view to the specified email recipients?
  2. Would there be scenarios where the shared users should also have "edit" rights to the chart?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Read only sharing for review purposes will be a good starting point, Ability to work collaboratively in building and updating charts with a small group of selected collaborators by owner, has definite advantages while building complex use cases for charts.

We'll move forward with the "read-only" sharing feature. Due to our Chart’s code architecture, collaborative editing has some challenges.

What is the status of this? @absqueued

Hei @Marcela Young this feature request has been made a part of the backlog. But has not been picked up yet for execution as we have to do some technical evaluations on our end so that it aligns with the collaborative experience we would like to have within all our experiences in CDF. So i apologize if there was a confusion in the communication there. We are currently working on getting some critical fixes / improvements in the monitoring and charts experience before we can work on improving the collaborative experiences in Charts. We do have plans to improve this experience in monitoring with commenting functionalities in the months to come so it would make a lot of sense to tackle this need then as well.

@Arun Arunachalam any additional updates you could provide on this request? Thanks in advance!

This item was discussed internally with Ram and it was agreed this is a high priority for Celanese.

Hei team

We are currently working on moving the charts existing backend to the new one in order to align with industry canvas, improve performance and reduce tech debt and be more future facing as a product. This has to be completed especially the migration of data before this functionality can be enabled. This should be done sometime in Q3 so we will have this available right after this migration has been done.
