Thanks for the keen eye! You are quite right, the documentation is misleading for this example. We’ll correct i t ASAP.Best Regards,Terje.
With Data Modeling features in Cognite Data Fusion, where edges (relationships) already support properties, we will not be making further extensions to the Relationships feature set.
Update on this one - there is already limited support for Auth0 in Cognite Data Fusion (including the frontend). Full parity with AAD support is in development, and will be available in H1 2024 (also with support for other OIDC-compatible IdPs). Best Regards,Terje LokenProduct Manager
Dinesh, thanks for your interest in this feature. This feature is currently in limited availability and being tested out at a few customers to gauge the performance (precision) of the classifier. We will not be making it more widely available until we’ve verified that it performes adequately. Sorry that the release update was not more clear on this topic. We will circle back once the evaluation has been concluded.Best Regards,Terje.
Thank you Richard and Joann,We agree that this would be a helpful improvement to the usability of Charts. Right now, we are mainly focused on enabling Charts to work better with time series data linked from data models - over time the data modeling capabilities will replace the use of templates in Cognite Data Fusion. We plan to ship improvements in this area in the second half of the year, as well as looking at other ways to increase the usability of Charts. For templates specifically, we have not planned to make any improvements, as this capability is eventually going to be replaced by data modeling. Best Regards,Terje Loken
Thank you Dietmar, and this is an interesting opportunity. Our plan so far is to leverage the SAP OData connectivity for SAP integration, as this seems to be commonly available, easy to integrate with and somewhat of a “default option” (Similar to what Google offers for their ETL service).Supporting SAP CDC would be an interesting alternative, with some obvious potential benefits. For it to work really well, CDF should be a direct destination, avoiding the need to go from SAP through MS Synapse/Databricks and from there into CDF. Maybe that requires some adaptations to the CDC service on the SAP side, I do not know. And we do not know yet how prevalent this CDC component will be across our customer base.We will keep an eye on this development going forward, and see if this gains traction and becomes a viable option. For now I think sticking to the OData connectivity option as a good baseline for SAP/CDF integration is still worth pursuing. Best Regards,Terje LokenLead Product Manager, C
Hello Ibrahim. We agree, and are actively exploring the area of generative AI and OpenAI services to figure out how we can leverage these technologies in our product. Right now we’re mostly focusing on how generative AI can simplify complex tasks in CDF, in a co-pilot/assistant paradigm. But there are a lot of possible options out there. Stay tuned for more information, and let us know if you have any concrete ideas on where we could leverage this for good effect. Best Regards,Terje LokenLead Product Manager, Cognite Data Fusion.
Hello Ram, Thanks for you feedback. We largely agree. You can look for improvements in both the landing page and other parts of the user experience towards the second half of the year. Right now our focus is on improving a few foundational parts of the user experience (unifying login across Cognite applications, and improving data exploration), but we have a long list of other things to work on, and the landing page is near the top of that list. The ability for administrators to remotely control the default set of functionality for “read only users” (which is a concept that does not really exist in Cognite Data Fusion) is an interesting one. So far we have not seen a large interest in this, and it would probably mean revamping our access management setup in order to do well. But I’ll leave the thread open for anyone else to chime in with similar sentiments. Best RegardsTerje LokenProduct Manager, Cognite Data Fusion
Thanks Gustavo.Basic usage of CDF as you describe is not very different from normal internet browsing. We have not tested this extensively (and it varies a lot across our userbase), but I would think that as a ballpark, anything from around 1Mbps should be sufficient (latency will also be a factor, and may slow down some of the interactive elements of the user experience such as cognite charts). I did a quick test, and the Chrome network profile “Fast 3G” worked pretty well, but “Slow 3G” felt very sluggish and provided a poor experience (what is “acceptable” is user-dependent, of course). You can play around with these yourself if you have access to a CDF instance - here is a tutorial explaining this for Google Chrome:https://www.debugbear.com/blog/chrome-devtools-network-throttling
Hello Gustavo, this depends a lot on what you expect these users to be doing. Will they be using CDF platform tools out of the box, doing development or data science work, or work extensively with files, imagery and/or 3D models? For a lot of use cases, the bandwith requirements of CDF are quite limited, but there are certainly also scenarios where high-bandwidth is necessary for a good user experience. If you could tell us a little bit more about the user problems and typical tasks you are expecting them to do, it will be easier to provide some guidance. Best Regards,Terje.
Thank you for the request, and we recognize the pain point you’re trying to solve with this.We are currently looking at our model for supporting sharing and collaboration better. The solution we end up with will probably be more like what you find in tools like Google’s G Suite, Office365 and others, some variant of a “request access” form which in turn notifies the owners/admins of the piece of data/content. Just generating notifications without the user explicitly asking for access is something we think will quickly lead to notification fatigue and there will not be enough context to understand whether the user in question should have access or not.
On the topic of Data Sets, there will be substantial changes and improvements in how you organize data in CDF in 2023, which will also be reflect in the data exploration experience. For now, use of Data Sets requires some self-organization and naming conventions to make sense. The same applies to 3D models - we are looking at ways to organize these better. But it seems you could also get some short-term gains with clearer naming conventions and maybe some cleanup? On Events, the raw event list contains too much varied information. As you know, richer data modeling enables some of this to go away. In the meantime, you will need to use additional filters - selecting Events and filtering by type allows me to select workorders, notifications, etc.
Great idea Anders. Would it be beneficial for you if these “views” are also shareable as URLs, so you can either send them to others or store them yourself? This way, if you click on one of these URLs, all the state would be there - colors, line width, x & y axis, etc.
Great input Anders. We have plans to implement a similar concept - a flexible “workspace” that you can use to complement your chart(s) with various documentation, documents or data stored in CDF that complements the timeseries data, but also allow for annotations, comments and documentation of what the chart is showing. Look forward to the first releases in this direction sometime in Q2 2023.
Thanks Ibrahim. This is certainly manageable - as long as the QR code gives us a unique key, and we have somewhere to map that key to the actual identifier(s) we want to use to connect the QR code to an asset, this would be feasible.
Thank you. In your particular case, can you describe what is stored in the QR code? Is it a synthetic key that needs to be resolved to an asset identifier by lookup, or is the asset identifier directly encoded? If a lookup is needed, is this data that you already have available in a service, database or similar?
Ibrahim, stay tuned for some exciting developments in this direction later this year and into 2023. We completely agree with you that this makes a lot of sense, and are working towards this.
