SAP Connectors - similar to MS Azure

In CAB 03/23 the gap about SAP connectors were discussed, now below article reached me (MS announcement). Hearing the details of SAP CDC the first time as of this article, I guess this is what’s actually missing in standard CDF, right? When/How this can get implemented on Cognite side?

SAP BW is one of the parallel data-hubs on our side, where integration for Business use-cases on-top of CDF are interesting for us.

Thank you Dietmar, and this is an interesting opportunity.

Our plan so far is to leverage the SAP OData connectivity for SAP integration, as this seems to be commonly available, easy to integrate with and somewhat of a “default option” (Similar to what Google offers for their ETL service).

Supporting SAP CDC would be an interesting alternative, with some obvious potential benefits. For it to work really well, CDF should be a direct destination, avoiding the need to go from SAP through MS Synapse/Databricks and from there into CDF. Maybe that requires some adaptations to the CDC service on the SAP side, I do not know. And we do not know yet how prevalent this CDC component will be across our customer base.

We will keep an eye on this development going forward, and see if this gains traction and becomes a viable option. For now I think sticking to the OData connectivity option as a good baseline for SAP/CDF integration is still worth pursuing.

@terjelo  can you please provide an update on SAP connector. We are waiting to deploy. Can we start testing with S4 Hana?
