Cognite InField: Hierarchy Navigation in InField

Related products: InField

There is currently no intuitive way to navigate through the asset hierarchy in InField.  Please include this capability or, if it already exists, make it more intuitive.

Hi Adam, thanks for bringing the importance of this to our attention. You’re not the first - we already have improved navigation as an item in our backlog. I’m unable to give you a timeline, but rest assured it will be addressed at some point.

Hi @asgottlieb - following up on this one. After this input we have released a way of navigating the asset hierarchy through the “search field”, the reason for not implementing a full hierarchy was to not ruin the mobile experience. Have you tested the “search” experience and does it meet some of your needs for a hierarchy?

@Kristoffer Knudsen

the data needs to roll up as well, if we pick a parent then data for parent and children should be aggregated in Infield.

Ibrahim is absolutely correct - until data rolls up to parents in InField like it does in CDF, there is no benefit to being able to navigate the hierarchy tree.  The feature of being able to get to the parent from the equipment is very nice and intuitive.

Thanks @asgottlieb & @ibrahim.alsyed !

Great that you enjoy the equipment → parent feature. When it comes to accessing children (and it’s relevant data) I agree that it’s a need that makes a lot of sense. The problem is the potential amount of data and how this is presented in a nice and intuitive way (especially on mobile), such that it’s actually valuable and not just “noise”. There’s probably cases where even “grand-children” data is relevant as well,  which will mean an even larger amount of data.

Will gather your comments above and reach out to you when we start detailing this out internally. Thanks!

More data is better than less data ….my 2 cents

Hi @Kristoffer Knudsen,

Following up on this issue as it’s been almost a year since the last update. Is it still being planned for development and if so, what’s the ETA?
